What is an Aqua Lung, you ask?

What is an Aqua-Lung? The Aqua-Lung is an open circuit, self-contained breathing device. Aqua-Lungs were the first self-contained, commercially viable breathing apparatus. This type of equipment has become known as a twin-hose diver regulator and a demand valve. Aqua-lungs were created by Emile Gagnen and Jacques Cousteau.

Jacques Cousteau

Jacques Cousteau, in the 1940s, created the first underwater breathing apparatus that was self-contained and open-circuit. Cousteau designed the first underwater breathing apparatus that used compressed air. Named the Aqua-Lung, this device opened the world of diving to anyone with an interest in the sport. Cousteau's Aqua-Lung became the standard for divers everywhere.

Emile Gagnan

Emile Gagnan, Jacques-Yves Cousteau, and Emile Gaunin invented the Aqua Lung in 1940. Its innovative design was derived from the earlier designs of diving helmets in the 19th century. It allows underwater divers to inhale through a mouthpiece that releases compressed gas activated from their breath. Gagnan further refined the regulator valve to allow for automatic air supply to the diver's lips. The amount of breath taken by the diver is then proportional to compressed air. This device was a significant breakthrough in the diving world, allowing people to explore depths of ocean for scientific observation, military and recreational use.

The first open-circuit demand regulator

Cousteau developed the Aqua-Lung in 1944 and patented it in 1946. The Aqua-Lung scuba regulator has been a hit since its inception. Gagnan and Emile Gagnan were Cousteau’s son-in-law and French chemists. They all knew Cousteau's research and decided to collaborate and create the Aqua-Lung regulator.

The BC1

The BC1 Aqua Lung can be used to inflate backs for advanced commercial, military, public safety, and other divers. With its rugged design, it offers superior comfort, fit, and stability. The user manual gives details about what weights can be put into each pouch. The BC1 is available in two different weight capacities, one for the chest and one for the back. By purchasing different weight pouches, the BC1 can be tailored to suit individual needs.

The Titan

Aqua Lung Titan regulators are lightweight and very portable. Its lightweight design makes it very comfortable to use. Additionally, the soft polyurethane shell provides a comfortable fit. Its light weight and robust design make it easy for extended diving. The price is reasonable, making it accessible to many people. There are two stages to the device, with a second that stops unwanted freeflow.

The Mentor

Developed in conjunction with the United States Navy, the Aqua lung Mentor is a regulator that replaces the aging double hoses that are used to train divers for rebreather use. The Aqua lung is not yet available to the public but it is an excellent option for professional divers who are looking for an alternative for the double-hose regulators. The Aqua lung Mentor Mentor is available for purchase. Here are some tips. Before you buy the Aqua lung Mentor, make sure that it is calibrated.
