You will need to take a scuba dive course if you plan on becoming a cavern divers. The course includes four scuba divers. The first is an outdoors practice dive. Here you will learn the basics of handling line, reel, avoiding silt, and managing air. Your instructor will also show you how to plan your dive and keep your orientation and air management under control. The course will prepare you to dive in caves.
Safety
Cave diving safety protocols should follow the Rule of Threes. The Cave Diver should have three sources for light and at minimum two tanks. To ensure they are able to survive the dive, they should separate their gas into three sections. A more conservative gas management plan is preferable if the dive team is experienced and has a history of diving in caves. Cave divers should be careful when diving in caves.
Equipment
Cave diving requires the use of specific equipment. It is important to carry two types of safety reels. The one should be used for running guideline and the other should be used while the diver is in the cavern. Before you go cavern diving, ensure that every diver has a safety rope with enough line to reach cave's entrance. Manufacturers will often pack the reels up to the edge with guideline when making a new reel. This makes them more susceptible to jamming. To prevent a jam, trim approximately 10 meters (30 ft.) of line before you use the reel. This will reduce the risk for entanglement.
Maximum penetration
TDI offers a cavern diving course for scuba divers who want to dive in areas that do not allow direct vertical access. This includes overhangs and cavern diving. While it is not a prerequisite to enroll in a cavern dive, this course will help you gain the necessary skills to make the best use of this environment. In this course, you will learn how to safely navigate the confined spaces that are often hidden from view.
Maximum depth
There are certain limitations to cavern diving. You must never dive at night, and be aware of your limits. Cavern diving requires more advanced training that other types of diving. You will need to be familiar with cave safety procedures and your limits if you are interested in diving in caverns. Before diving in caverns, you will need to have had some experience. Once you have this experience, you can start your adventure into the world cavern dive!
